Many clients who are involved in accidents believe that once their case is settled, they will be paid after the attorney’s fee and costs are taken out.
This is not correct in today’s budget conscious environment.
If you owe child support, and particularly if you are a Philadelphia resident, the court will issue an order making you pay the full amount of support from your settlement.
If you receive benefits from the Department of Public Welfare, for cash and medical, all cash received during the pendency of the case, and accident related medical bills, must be paid back.
If you have private health insurance, and it pays any accident related bills, it is more than likely your insurance agreement has a provision requiring you to pay back the insurance company from your settlement.
Be careful out there, and if you have any questions about the above, just give us a call.
