Many clients have asked me why does the office file lawsuits instead of settle. I usually end up telling them that the insurance company wants to make them a low offer, make miserly increases, and sweat them out. They then relay a story about a friend or neighbor who got $50,000 for a stubbed toe. I gently have to remind them there are no big paydays for minor injuries, and the insurance industry is constantly working on new ways to give as little as possible, and to defend their case.
